Young at kart.

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!

Jordi was the first person to wish me a Happy Birthday. He Anne Sullivan’d his birthday wishes to me in the dark. Hearing people don’t seem to get how much non-blind deaf folks suck at understanding tactile sign language. But the context was there. What was he going to fingerspell in my hands? โ€œHappy Birthday!โ€

Del, Phoebe, and Mac were the next to wish me a happy birthday.

Yeah, they’re just NPCs in a video game. I smiled anyway.

I spent the rest of the day preparing for tomorrowโ€™s Karty. Yesterday, Burger asked for details on the Karty at work. I told him Iโ€™d been working on decorations, bought a prize, and would be serving snacks.

“Oh, you’re such a sweetheart. It’s your birthday and you’re feeding us?!”

โ€œItโ€™s not really a birthday party. Iโ€™ll be 41! Hardly a milestone worthy of celebration!โ€

“Hey, every year above the ground is a good thing!”

…I had a doge moment right there and then: Wow. So deep. Much insight.

Burger had a point. I walked back to my workbench only to return a few minutes later to tell Burger how, in the Netherlands, it is tradition for the birthday haver to treat their friends to a meal. Also, the spouse of the birthday haver gets showered with words of congratulations, e.g.ย โ€œJordi, congratulations on your girlfriendโ€™s birthday.โ€

The Dutch are weird like that.

Yep. 41. But tomorrow’s event will prove that I’m still young at heart!

…which is such an old person thing to say.

ehhh heeehh EHHHEEHHHEE HEEEHHEE!

  1. My WordPress subscriptions are set to all arrive on Sundays, ergo my lateness! I think youโ€™re allowed to win your own prize at your own Karty ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜Ž
